Excellent quality restoration of a spectacular 1960 Chrysler Saratoga. Stored in a heated garage for the six years since the restoration was completed. Rust free body and frame. Deep quality paint showing no blemishes. Show quality stainless and trim. Like-new silver and black interior with front swivel seats. All glass and rubber is excellent. It has the Golden Lion 383 engine with push-button automatic transmission. Engine runs quiet as a mouse and has great power upon acceleration. Transmission shifts like it should. Power steering and power brakes makes driving a breeze. Recent brake and steering box work makes this car capable of a long, enjoyable road trip. Recent repairs of over $2,000 to take care of any and all remaining minor mechanical issues. This car is ready to get in and go and will do well in the local show circuit. Check out the astrodome gauge cluster. At night, it looks like a jukebox on steroids. All glass is clear and windows and doors all operate smoothly and correctly. All instruments and gauges operate correctly. Even the original AM radio works good. $2,500 high-end stereo installed with Alpine remote ipod-ready head unit, two sets of Infinity speakers, two Alpine amps and 12” subwoofer in trunk. There is an infrared sensor under the dash so you can operate the stereo with the glove box closed. It sounds fantastic and really adds to the enjoyment of driving the car. So many people spend $50K on restoring their cars and then install one of those Custom Autosound radios in the dash, which are just plain junk. This is a REAL car stereo. I have the original wheels and wheel covers in excellent condition with brand new balanced radial tires mounted. If you prefer the stock look, you my have those wheels and tires instead of the wide whites. Issues: 1) The power steering pump makes some noise when the wheel is turned all the way to either side. Don’t know if it’s a problem but it’s easy to work around. 2) No spare or jack. 3) Parking brake release lever handle cracked. 4) I think the swivel seats used to swivel out when the door was opened but they don’t anymore. You have to engage a lever. This is an excellent turn-key classic that is ready to drive and enjoy. A nearly identical 1960 Chrysler 300 in this condition would sell for $75,000. This car can be had for much less and will provide about the same amount of fun. I’ve owned a lot of classic cars over the years and this is one of my favorites. Not only is it just plain beautiful, but it is reliable, comfortable and worry free. I just drove it down to Monterey for the weekend with no trouble whatsoever. It is so dependable and comfortable that it could even be a daily driver, although I hope you won’t do that. I want this car to stay pristine for a long time.
This car is not going to be inexpensive. If you want a Virgil Exner car this nice, expect to pay for it now or buy a driver quality car and pay for it later. If this car does not meet my reserve, it will be going to Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas in October 2008, where it has a pre-auction estimate of $35-40,000. I’m trying to sell it here on eBay now because I have my eye on another car that may not be around in October. Also, there are lot of fees and expenses involved in getting the car and me to Las Vega and selling it through the auction format. I am willing to pass the savings on to the eBay buyer. You can also avoid the 10% buyer’s premium. I’m not a dealer. I’m a regular guy who loves cars. I register and pay sales tax on every one so the title is in my name. Check my feedback and you’ll see that everyone who has bought a classic car from me has been satisfied. That having been said, the opinion regarding the condition of a 50-year-old car is subjective. To eliminate any chance of disappointment, you really should see and drive the car before buying. Call me at (650) 430-2010 and let’s make arrangements. If you are not comfortable buying a car sight unseen (perfectly understandable), then either arrange for an inspection or DO NOT BID. The winner must Paypal or wire a non-refundable deposit of $500 to my account or hand me cash on or before the close of business on Thursday, September 4, 2008, regardless of where you live. Failure to comply with this will get you deadbeat bidder negative feedback. Then, when you come to pick up the car, if you did not see it before the auction ended and are disappointed in any way, you will not have to pay the balance due. However, by winning the auction, you take the car off the market and all the other bidders turn their attention to other cars. Accordingly, your deposit IS at risk so don’t bid if you’re nervous about that concept. One final thing, please don't ruin this auction by jumping in at the last minute, beating out bidders that have been communicating with me all week, and then deciding not to go through with the deal. It's just not fair to anyone. If your serious about buying a car in this price range, I hope you will make the effort to pick up the phone and call Mark at 650-430-2010 to talk about the car. It seems strange to me that anyone would be willing to buy an expensive car sight unseen from a stranger without at least talking to him. |
