Vehicle Description

This is a rare 1933 Chrysler Imperial CQ. The car has a 126” wheelbase, straight 8 engine, and 3-speed manual transmission. It was built on August 9, 1933 in Detroit, and shipped to a dealer in Oklahoma City. It is believed that a total of only 243 were built, and that only four are known to exist today. The car was restored from the frame up by George Cavanda of Chicago Restorations, from 1998-2002. We have restoration receipts for approximately $100,000. There is much additional documentation to go along with the vehicle, including restoration photos and a title from the 1940s when the car was relocated to Illinois.

To the best of our knowledge, this is a three-owner car. The current owner purchased the car in a northern Chicago suburb in 1986. The previous owner was given the car in 1941 by his father, who purchased it at an estate sale in Oklahoma. The previous owner drove the car regularly until the mid-1950s, when he parked it in his garage with the intention of restoring it. It was then unused until its sale in 1986.

The drivetrain was completely rebuilt, with the straight 8 engine blueprinted to original specifications. It has original 1933 Chrysler 17” wheels produced by Kelsey Hayes, an original service manual, and original sales brochure. The car has been driven approximately 1,500 miles since the restoration, mostly to shows. It is in beautiful condition, and runs and drives like new. The car is currently located in Hilton Head, South Carolina. It is available for inspection by appointment.

I’m listing this car for the owner, who is a personal friend. I’m a licensed dealer; but the car will be sold as a private sale for sales tax purposes. Check with your state to see about any applicable sales tax. Many states exempt private sales from tax.

1. Your bid is a legal and binding contract and will be treated as such. Please do not bid unless you intend to buy, and have all funds available. I reserve the right to verify the authenticity and receipt by my bank of any form of payment. Wire transfer is the preferred form.
2. Depending on the state laws where the car will be registered, your purchase may be subject to applicable sales and local taxes and fees.
3. The car may be for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if the reserve has not been met.
4. This is a pre-owned vehicle, and is subject to the normal wear appropriate to the mileage and age.
5. $2000 deposit is due within 48 hours. The balance is due within14 days of auction closure. If the initial deposit is not received within the specified time, I reserve the right to relist the vehicle. You are still liable for damages if you breach the contract.
