Vehicle Description

OK Mopar fans, time for one of my favorites—a ’68 Coronet R/T! I love the big badges on the fenders, the quarter panel trim, the nice interior…it’s such a complete package. The grille looks like it’s going to eat you and the 3D taillights and finish panel with another big R/T badge lets you know what just blew your doors off! This one’s gorgeous, too—a full numbers matching rotisserie job with no corners cut. Let’s go!

Start outside. The paint is so close to flawless you’d need a magnifying glass to find issues. That’s the original sheet metal from stem to stern, too—this one spent most of its life in Arizona before landing in Ohio for its restoration! As far as trim goes, if it was stainless or pot metal it was painstakingly restored, and if it was chrome or aluminum it was replaced with new and NOS pieces. New R/T emblems, new door handles, a new antenna, new locks, rechromed bumpers, highly polished and dent free window moldings, new glass, restored taillights and finish panel, new or NOS lenses, all four headlights are correct GE pieces, the marker lights are new…AND the paint is beautiful! New chrome road wheels holding new radial redlines and a white bumblebee stripe complete the exterior with style!

Here’s the fender tag broken down for you:

CAR: Dodge Coronet R/T 2 Door Hardtop

ENGINE: 440cid 4-bbl HP V8

TRANSMISSION: 3-Speed Automatic

TIRES: F70x14 Red Side Wall, Steel Belted

BUILD DATE: October 09.

AXLE: 3.23 Rear Axle Ratio

INTERIOR: Sport Trim Grade, Vinyl Bucket Seats. Red Interior.

PAINT: Monotone Burgundy Metallic Paint.

OTHER: Burgundy Metallic Upper Door Frame Color. Stripe Deleted.

19: Wide Sill Moldings

25: Drip Rail Moldings

78: Wheel Lip Moldings

H1: Power Brakes

R1: AM Radio

X2: Tinted Windshield Only

b4: Bucket Seats

You’ll see two deviations from stock on that list. First, this was a stripe delete car, but it looks awesome with the white one on there that it should have come standard. Second, the red interior was swapped out for pearl white, and I doubt you’ll find too many people objecting to that swap! Besides, both of those are completely reversible if desired with nearly zero effort. Why not have a better looking car for it?

Throw this baby up on some tall jack stands—you’ll want to lie under there and stare for hours! This isn’t just a fully painted, shiny underside—it’s detailed incredibly well! How about correct colors and finishes on the rebuilt suspension pieces, or the correct exhaust from front to back? Rest assured that the rebuilt, numbers-matching driveline works better now than it did when Mopar installed it in the fall of 1967!

Climbing inside is a real treat. New upholstery on new foam means you’ll be comfortable on long trips. It also gives you time to look around at all the other restored or new components in here—the door panels, armrests, armrest pads, door handles, window cranks, carpet, headliner, visors and the floor mats are all new, while the gauges, dash, steering column, steering wheel and all mechanical bits have been carefully restored.

Under the hood you’ll find more fanatical attention to detail. The engine compartment and underside of the hood are loaded with clear for an unreal shine, as is the motor itself! A correct air cleaner covers the correct carburetor bolted to the original engine. All new date coded hoses and wires are present, and all ancillary devices such as the alternator, power steering and brake systems appear better than new. The correct radiator’s topped by the correct cap, the right ballast resistor sits next to the rebuilt original wiper motor, new wiring ties everything together…no stones left unturned here!

Time to hop aboard the Coronet express—’68 cars are wicked quick and are the last of the understated B bodies. Gorgeous in the sun and sinister at night the color dances before your eyes, and the white interior and stripe absolutely unify the car. With near flawless paint, unreal execution and attention to detail, and a fully numbers matching drive train and body, this is one to hold on to, whether you’re into cruising or investing!
