The year 1960 saw the beginning of a new movement in the evolution of Ford’s design and marketing push. The introduction of the Falcon issued in an era of “compact” lighter weight cars, a major departure from the big heavy cruisers of the 50s. This revolutionary concept for Ford was pushed along by the infamous Robert McNamara, a Ford executive and short term company president who later resigned from his position and went on to become the US Defense Secretary, a position that put him right in the middle of the Vietnam war.
