More Details About Our Vehicle 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible 1957 was the last year for Ford's 1st generation 2-seater Thunderbirds. Totally restyled for its third model year, Ford finally had its roadster right. Greatly improved ride, handling and performance features were complimented by larger aft storage, an in-trunk spare and an instrument panel comparable with full sized Fords. Everything came together just right and resulted in the most desired collectable T'Bird of all time. Built on January 12th, 1957, our Bird is an exciting example of Ford's best. With the same meticulous collector-owner for 20 years and, less than 13,000 miles added since its restoration completed by renowned Bob Pittman Classic Cars in Nashville. This Bird is 1st class in every way. Bob reportedly commented that this Bird had the best body he'd ever seen - that's before he restored her from the ground up. Finished in its original Thunderbird Bronze, the body is in exceptional condition, metal and laser straight with paint depth reading from 12 - 20ml and excellent adhesion except at leaded seams, as factory assembled. The body stampings and welds are correct. So are the notable, factory markings and details under the hood, but they were refreshed during restoration. Very minor stone chips and one door edge rub have been professionally repaired and barely show. The removable porthole hardtop is correctly finished in Colonial white. The soft top is white also, with a clear Izen glass rear window, great gaskets, fitment and function, but with minor use-abrasions (nothing to write home about or correct unless you seek absolute perfection.) All the glass, seals, gaskets, chrome and stainless brite-work are as new; showing no deterioration or physical damage. The colonial white interior with contrasting coral carpet is as new, with no areas of wear, fade or damage. All the instruments (except clock), gauges and accessories - including the power windows - work as new, including the dealer-added under dash a/c. The original Wonderbar radio is included in the sale. The trunk, along with the spare, jack and tools, are as new too. This Bird had about 44,000 miles on her when restoration began. The frame and complete underside are original and were completely refreshed during restoration. There were no rust, corrosion or accident issues to contend with then or now…none! The entire original drive train was rebuilt less than 13,000 miles ago too. The matching 312 CID/245 HP engine and 3-speed Ford-O-Matic start easily, run and drive smoothly and are as new. The final non-posi drive ratio is 3.10:1. The power steering is responsive and tracks well, especially with the car's Coker 205/75 R 14 wide white wall radials mounted on dealer installed Kelsey Hayes wire wheels. The Sure-Swift factory power drum brakes are responsive and brake evenly; with less than 20% wear. The dual exhaust system is in great shape front to rear. The suspension, cooling and electrical systems have all been inspected and are in good order. The transmission and power steering have just been serviced and new gaskets, rings and seals installed to make this Bird dryer than most - none that we've even known are perfectly dry unless the fluids are gone. The car’s build sheet, ownership records from 1988, many service documents, and service manuals are included. Additional items in a domestic sale include a car cover, hardtop stand and an overhead pulley system for removing the hardtop. These are available internationally if shipped separately from the car - per custom's requirements - for the corresponding shipping fees. All in all, our '57 Thunderbird is an exceptional car; a strong #2 show-driver that lacks for nothing and will exceed your expectations. Its outstanding but rare color combination will attract admirers anywhere you go. So, prepare to enjoy the ride, the fun and onlooker's thumbs up! This car is challenging to photograph. She changes color and shade depending on angle and light. The photo directly to the right of this paragraph is color correct but as you will see, the color morphs as the light wraps around this car's sculpted body. Photos of the trunk and under the hood tend to show her true color most accurately. She is beautiful but your eyes will have to see her colors in person to fully appreciate it.
