![]() This Ford Torino muscle car for sale has been shown times.
Up for auction is one of the Coolest 1970 Ford Torino GT Fastback's that Ive seen in many years! Before I get too deep into this auction let me start by saying that this is an Original "J" Code 429 COBRA JET RAM AIR 370 HORSEPOWER FACTORY SHAKER HOOD, CLOSE RATIO 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION, FACTORY 9' REAREND WITH STAGGERED REAR SHOCKS AND THE OPTIONAL 3.25 TRACTION-LOK DIFFERENTIAL IN GORGEOUS ORIGINAL BRIGHT YELLOW WITH THE OPTIONAL SIDE STRIPES......REAL, DOCUMENTED AND RARE!This is the Top Dog for 1970 guys...this is not a "C" Code or an "N" Code....this is the 370 Horsepower Ram Air version of the Famous 429 Cobra Jet!. This Torino GT Fastback or Sportsroof as Ford called them is 1 of just 412 Torino GT's built for the 1970 model year with the "J" Code 429 COBRA JET RAM AIR Engine Option and the 4 Speed Transmission. These 1970Torino GT 429 Cobra Jet "J CodeFastbacks are far Rarer than the 1970 Cobra 429 andthe Torino GT Packageis amuch classier car all the way around. This 1970 Torino GT is a Beautiful and ExceptionallySolid Original California car Built at Ford's San Jose California Assembly Plant onApril 6, 1970. The Torino GT would spend most of its life in California(36 years) before it made its way to a good friend of mine here in Pennsylvania. This 1970Torino GT Fastback 429 CJ-370hp, 4 speed car is part of a privately owned collection andis only being sold because of a New Addition to my friends collection. I will be listing another of his cars this week. That car is a 1965 Mustang Fastback Resto-Mod equipped with a Roush Stroker Motor, 4 wheel Disc Brakes and a New Tremec 5 Speed Transmission. I gotta tell you, Im an Original Muscle car guy and not much into Resto-Mods but the Mustang Fastback that Im referring to is a True piece of Rolling Automotive Art! Enough on the Mustang, you can check it out later in an upcoming auction......back to this very Cool Torino GT 429 COBRA JET! This 1970 Torino GT Fastback was orderd new by the Owner of SUNSET FORD in Westminster California on February 17, 1970. The unusually Optioned Torino GT was Orderednew by SUNSET Ford and is reported to have beenthe Personal car of the Dealerships Owner. It issaid that the Owner of SUNSET Fordwouldorderd a Special Performance Ford Muscle car every year and he woulddrive it until the new Modelswere announced and then he would put in an order forthat New Model Years finest Performance car The order for this car went in on February 17, 1970 and the car was built on April 6, 1970. This Ford was built at Ford's Jan Jose California Assembly Plant and delivered to Sunset Ford in April of 1970. This was not your run of the mill Torino. The Owner of Sunset Ford could have ordered a New Cobra 429 CJ orone of the rather rare but very plain 1970 1/2 Ford Falcon's with the 429CJ but he chose the TorinoGT Sportsroof Model which was quite a bit more expensive than either the COBRA Fastback orthe very plainFalcon 429CJ. This guy knew that he wanted the classiest Ford Performance Model that Ford offered for the 1970 Model year and thats exactly what he ordered.SUNSET FORD'S Owner placedhis order for a 1970 Torino GT Fastback with the Highest Horsepower engine option available for 1970 along with the Close Ratio 4 Speed Transmission with the Standard HURST Shifter and Ford's 9" Rear with the very driver friendly 3.25 Traction-Lok. He not only orderedtheClassiest of the Torino Based Muscle cars with Fords most Powerful Engine Option but he also had the car nicely equipped with a nice long list of Options and a Stunning Color Combination! This Torino GT was orderedin Ford's Beautiful Bright Yellow Paint with the Black Hood Performance Paint Treatment and the 429CJ-370hpRam Air Shaker Hood. He also went with the Bucket Seats in OptionalBlack Turin Knit and Black Vinyl.....he alsoOpted for the very Cool Body Side Stripe or Laser Stripesas they are commonly called. If you have seen these Factory Side Stripes on a Torino GT up close and personal then you know how absolutelyStunning they are and if you have never seen them, well you are in for a Real Treat. These Stripes are some of the coolest Optional Stripe Packages ever offered by any Auto Manufacturer on any Muscle car of the 60'sor 70's. Theyare absolutely beautiful. I guess you can tell that Im a huge fan of the optional 1970 Stripes, huh? The car was ordered as a 1970 Torino GT Fastback with the J Code 429 Cobra Jet engine making 370 Horsepower with Fresh Air force fed to the engines carburetor by way of the Optional Shaker Hood. The 4 Speed Close Ratio Transmission was the only way to go if you wanted your 429 CJ Powered car to get up and go in a hurry and was shifted by way of the Original Hurst Shifter with the Special 1970 Hurst T Handle with the Transmissions shift pattern clearly marked on the Handle. You might ask why did he order the car with the 3.25 Traction-Lok instead of going with one of the more Performance oriented Gear Options like the 390 or the 4.30 Traction-Lok and the answer to that is quite simple, this guy loved to drive his cars and he wanted something that could be easily driven on the California Freeways. Keep in mind that the Speed Limit in California back in 1970 on most major Freeways was 75MPH. The 390 and 430 gear cars would not fare to well at Highway Speeds to say the least! The Optional Code "R" 3.25 Traction-Lok was the Perfect Combination for Performance and driveability. The 429 Cobra Jet, 370 Horsepower RAM AIR Engine Combined with the Code "6" Close Ratio Transmission and the 3.25 Traction-Lok made for an incredible Performance car that would cruise comfortably down the Highway at most any speed! This was an Awesome combination.......the Raw Power of the 429CJ-370hp engine combined with the Close Ratio Transmission and the 3.25 Traction-Lok would get the Torino GT up to Speed very quickly. The key is the Close Ratio Transmission combined with the 3.25 Traction-Lok. This is the ultimate driving machine.....370 Horsepower with the Close Ratio 4 Speed Box and the 3,25's were just perfect for the guy that wanted to run down the Freeway or get into a Light to Light Drag Race!.As I was saying beforeI got carried away, this car was nicely equipped with the J Code engine Option with RAM AIR, Optional Transmission, Optional Rearend and alsoequipped with Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, California's Evaporative Emissions, Body Side Stripes, Close Ratio 4 Speed Transmission, Optional Traction-Lok Positive Traction Rear, AM Radio, Deluxe Seat Belt Warning Lights, In Dash Tachometer, Hideaway Headlamps,F70-14 Goodyear Raised White Letter Tires. This 1970 Torino GT 429CJ-370hp Ram Air car was Ordered by the Owner of Sunset Ford in Westminster California and he kept the car from April of 1970 until March of 1971 when his new Torino GT 429CJ arrived at his Dealership. The New 1971 Torino GT Fastback is said to have been almost identically equipped as his 1970except it was ordered in verycoolGrabber Blue. Keep in mind that this was common practice back in the day and is probably the same way today. Dealers wouldoften order special cars for their personal use and then they finally sell themwhen their newmodels come in. I recently represented a friends 1968 Cougar GT-E 427 car and that car was ordered new by a Dealer from Florida and he kept the car for nearly ayear before the car was sold New to its first registered owner who received a New Car Warranty and also received a substantial discount because the car was nearly a year old with a few hundred miles on it. Apparently this was the way things were done by New Car Dealers Throughout the Country back then and Im sure thats the case to this very day. The Owner of SUNSET Ford now had his New Grabber Blue 1971 Torino GT 429 and hisBright Yellow 1970 Torino GT 429CJ was putonthe lot for sale. It didnt take very long for the Beautiful Bright Yellow Torino GT 429 to find a March 23, 1971 the one year old 1970 Torino GT Fastback with its Powerhouse 429 Cobra Jet Engine was sold to its first Registered Owner, a gentleman from Long Beach California. I dont have much information on the cars original owner except for his name and old address but it is said that he kept the car until 1982 when it was sold to another local resident, a young man from Fullerton California. It is said that the car was still in beautiful condition when it was sold by its first owner in 1982. The secondowner was a young man who is said to have come from a large family who were diehard Ford people going back several generations. This Young guy answered a Classified in the local paper for thethen 12 year oldTorino GT 429 and so Dad went along to make sure that his young son didnt get taken .The father and sonwere said to have made the trip in the families old 1967 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon that was powered by Fords big 428 engine so apparently Dadknew a little something about Fords!Apparently Dad was an old Hot Rodder who had done his share of Street Racing back in the 50's and is said to haveStreet Raced an old 1940 Ford Coupe with a worked Flathead Ford back in his younger days. After looking theTorino GTover very closely and taking the car for a test drive, it is said that Dad liked the Troino GT as much or more than his young son but was a little concerned withhis son driving a car that had more power than anything Dad had ever driven before. Finally after some pleading by the young man, Dad gave in. Dadwas a fairly sharp guy who had been around the block once or twice and is said to have negotiated the sale price with the Torino GT's Original Owner and after a short time, the Father and Son were on their way back home with the youngmans new Ride. How cool is that? When I purchased my first car, my Dad was not even a little bit happy about my 1965 Plymouth Belvedere with its Factory 383 HP and the factory 4 speed transmission. He took one ride in that car with me behind the wheel and he never got in the car again! The young man loved his 1970 Torino GT 429CJand he used the carfor daily transportation to and from his job for the next few years. The Torino GT was his first Real Muscle car and was treated to the weekly wash and wax to keep his Bright Yellow Shaker 429CJ Torino GT looking beautiful.. The Torino wasdriven fairly often over the first few years and then less and less as lifehad moved along and the owner found himself in need of a Truck forthe work he did.As is often the case, life got in the way of his beloved Torino and soon the young man found himself with a growing family, Mortgage Payments and aMonthly payment on the new Truck.Needless to say the owner found himself with less and less free time with his family and work and the now 23year old Torinocontinued to sit alongside the house. Sure every once in awhile he would go out and fire up the old Torino 429CJand he would take it for a Blast to keep the old girl in good running order andto blow off a little steam. There is just something about getting into your Muscle car and taking it for a good blast that somehow relieves all the stress of daily life. Ifind myself taking one of my oldMuscle cars out for a little blast once in awhilewhenImstressed and somehow they have a way of making everything fade away even if its just for a short time. Time to continued to slip by and the Torino still sat alongside the house and the car was used less each year. Theonce young single guy who had purchased the Torino all those years before now found himself with a dilemma. Hehad given some thought to selling the car on several occasions buthe couldnt bring himself to part withhis old reliable friend.Afterall the old Torino GT 429CJ was still in pretty good shape and he didnt want to part with the old car so he kept it a little longer. . At some point during his ownership the carhad the drivers side front fender and thegrill replaced from some sortof fender benderand as you can see the original hideaway headlights were replaced with a correct 1970 TorinoGT grill. Again he considered selling the Torino GT 429CJ but again he decided to keep theold Muscle car as it was like an old friend and he had grown up with this car. It was a very special part of his life and he had a very hard time parting with the car. There was a local guy who would always stop by the house and ask him if he wanted to sell the car and the same guy would also chase him down everytime he had the car out for a cruise. Of course he would always tell this very persistant guy that the car was not for sale. Finally sometime around 1993 or 1994, the very persistent neighbor was in the right place at the right time and the owner of 11+ years decided to sell the car. The third owner was another guy from the area who bought the car to enjoy and thought he might get around to painting the car one of these days as the original paint was fading a bit after 23 years. The car had aquired a few minor bumps and scratches along the way but it was a 23 year old Muscle car and it was still in very good original condition.. Keep in mind that this was still an exceptionally Original Factory "J" Code Torino GT 429 COBRA JET-370 HORSEPOWER, 4 SPEED CAR in BRIGHT YELLOW WITH FORD FAMOUS SHAKER HOOD AND WAS STILL 1 OF JUST 412 OF THESE RARE MUSCLE CARS EVER BUILT! The car was in the third owners possession for a few years before it was sold to owner number four who purchased the car in September of 2000.This guy knew that this was not only an exceptionally Original car but that it was alsoa very rare car as well. He knew that this was avery Special Torino GT 429CJ with the Shaker Hoodand the 4 speed so he decided totreat the carto a nice restoration. Things were a little slow getting started but eventually this very Original 80,000 Mile Torino GT 429CJreceivednew paint in itsBeautiful Original Bright Yellow with the Hood Blackoutand the very cool Original Side Stripes were installed. The Original Front Bucket Seats were recovered and the Carpets were replaced. The car received all new brakes, New Shocks, New Exhaust, New Clutch, Pressure Plate, Throwout Bearing, New Dual Exhaust, Bumpers were rechromedand countless other things were restored on this otherwise very Original car. When the car received its freshening, the owner installed 15" Steelwheels with New BF Goodrich T/A Radials which not only give the car an excellent stance but make this car drive like new.I have personally driven this car and its amazing how nice this car drives. There is something to be said about low mile Original cars when it comes to the way they drive. Anyway, the car was eventually sold to a well respected Classic car Dealer who finished up the car and drove the car for a short time before it was sold to my very close friend and delivered to Pennsylvania. This was the first time in 37 years that this Torino GT would visit the East Coast! As you can see by the photos, this is one very nice Original 1970 Torino GT 429CJ, 4 speed, Shaker car. The car is currently owned by a good friend of mine from Collegeville Pennsylvania who is a diehard Ford collector and Classic car enthusiast. The car is part of his collection of beautiful Big Block Ford powered cars and the ony reason that he is parting with this car is because of a new addition to his collection. He will be selling this Torino GT 429CJ and one of the most beautifully restored Resto-Mod 1965 Mustang Fastbacks that I have ever had the pleasure to drive. As you can see by the Ford Report that Kevin Marti was kind enough to supply, this car is for the most part exactly as it was built at Ford's San Jose California Assembly Plant back in the Spring of 1970. This is a REAL DEAL Factory "J" Code 429 COBRA JETcar Rated at a very conservative 370 Horsepower. The Vin Number on the car is 0R35J140370 which breaks down as follows: 0= 1970 Model Year R= Built at San Jose California Assembly Plant 35= Torino GT 2 Door Sportsroof J= 429-4V Cobra Jet RAM AIR 140370= Ford Vehicle Sequential Build Number for the San Jose Plant The Door Decal is in place and decodes as follows: Vin# 0R35J140370 Body: 63F= Torino GT 2 Door Sportsroof Color: D= Bright Yellow Paint Ford Code # 3470-A Trim: YA = Black Turin Knit/Vinyl Bucket Seats Axle: R= 3.25 Traction-Lok Axle Ratio Transmission: 6= Four Speed Close Ratio Manual Transmission DSO: Los Angeles California Ordering District 1970 Torino GT 2 Door Sportsroof built with Code "D" Bright Yellow Paint 3,911 Total Vehicles 1970 Torino GT 2 Door Sportsroof built with Bright Yellow Paint and Black Turin Bucket Seats: 1313 total vehicles 1970 Torino GT Sportsroof built with the 429 Cobra Jet "J" Code Engine and the Close Ratio 4 Speed Manual Transmission: only 412 total built As you can see this is a fairly unsual 1970 Torino GT 429CJ-370 Horsepower RAM AIR Shaker Hood, Close Ratio 4 Speed Transmission car with the Factory 9" Rearend with Staggered Rear Shocks and the 3.25 Traction-Lok Option. This is a wonderful Vintage Ford Muscle car guys! This car is exceptionally Straight and has Beautiful Bright Yellow Paint with the Cool Blackout Hood and the Awesome Shaker Scoop coming up through the Middle.....the Original Side Tape Stripes or Laser Stripes look great and the car overall has a very mean look and stance. The car starts easily and runs very strong. Its got a very mean rumble out through its Dual Exhaust which exit at the rear of the car, They did a Nice job on the exhaust on this Torino GT. The 429CJ appears to be the cars Original engine with all of the DO parts Numbers showing on all of the engine components except for the Carburetor and theIntake Manifold which is an Aluminum Edelbrock piece but the Original Cast Iron Factory 4 Barrel Intake Manifold is still with the car. After looking this car over pretty well for a few hours with my friend, I am convinced that the car has its Original 429 Cobra Jet Engine, Original 4 Speed Close Ratio Transmission Coded RUG-AU on the Original Tag attached to the Transmission.....Original 9" Rearend with its Staggered Rear Shock Absorbers and the 3.25 Traction-Lok. The car runs very Strong. I have to admit, Im into the earlier cars although I have owned one low mile 1970 1/2 Falcon 429CJ "J" Code car.........Im more into the early car.....61-67 Galaxie's Fairlanes and some of the Mustangs but this Torino GT is a very impressive Performer. I was not only pleasantly surprised at how well this car runs but how hard the 429CJ engine pulls through all of the gears! This car flatout runs hard! The car is not only a very strong runner but the ride wasfar better than I expected.Lets face it, these are unibody cars and I just didnt think that the car would ride as nicely as it does....I expected your typical hard riding unibody car thats far too front heavy and thought it would be a decent ride at best......man was I wrong about thatThese cars ride beautifully. Ive owned my share of older Fords with the big full frame and you expect a nice ride from those cars but these Torino, Fairlane and Falcon Bodied Muscle cars are really nice drivers. The Transmission shifts perfectly with no grinding or howling and no typical Toploader humming....this Transmission shifts just great and the Clutch works great also with no problems....no chattering or slippings.....just ease up the Clutch pedal and the car pulls out nicely with no problems whatsoever. The Original HURST Shifter works very nice and feels goodand tight with no issues. The correct 4 Speed HURST THandle is still with the car and makes grabbing gearsa whole lot of fun. The Engine Compartment is nice and clean and looks great with its Finned Aluminum Factory 429CJ Valve Covers. The engine compartment has all of the correct decals that were installed after the engine compartment was nicely detailed. The car has its Original Shaker and although the Original snorkel is not shown in the pictures, the correct snorkel is with the car as well as the Air Cleaner Support Bracket that goes from the Air Cleaner to the Intake Manifold. It would have taken a few minutes to install the snorkel but my friend didnt get around to putting it on the air cleaner. The one thing that I know the car will need is the heater core replaced. Apparently the Heater Core started to leak on its last owner and he didnt get around to replacing it so it will need a simply $60 Heater Core or you can leave it alone as its been bypassed and does not make any difference in the cars driveability. The engine doesnt smoke and it feels really strong. The car drives uo the road very nice and steers nice and straight. The Factory Power Disc Brakes stop the car nicely and the Factory Power Steering is a must on this car with the 4 speed and the Power Steering works well. The car is very Original with its Factory In Dash Ribbon Tachometer and its Original AM Radio. The Dash is nice and clean and looks great. The Dash Pad looks nice with no cracks or warpage problems. The Dash is Original and the Black Steel Portion of the Dash looks nice and clean foran Original 38 year old Muscle car. The Instrument Cluster is all Original and looks nice. Thereis nothing cut or altered on the Dash and everything is correct and clean. The Seats are nice and clean.....very comfortable and look great in the Original Turin Knit Black Vinyl. The Door Panels are nice and clean and look to be the Originals. The Headliner, Carpeting and the Rear Package Tray are all in nice condition. The Steering wheel is the 38 year oldOriginal Black Standard Steering wheel and iscomplete and functions just finealthough it does have a couple of easily repairable cracks which can be done at home with a few hours of time. The Original Date Coded Seat Belts are all in place and work fine. The cars headlights, Parking Lights, Turn Signals all work. The Original AM Radio works. The Windhsield Wipers work fine. The car has nice clean Trim and Beautiful Chrome Bumpers. The Body on the car is very nice. Please keep in mind that this is a California car for most of its life so it still has its Original Floor Pans, Torque Boxes and Frame Rails which all look nice and clean. The Undercarriage is just clean Original. The Underside of the car is what you would expect from a good clean Original California body. Ive lived on the East Coast my whole life and I know the difference between a roughly patched up floor pan and good originals. This car has an Excellent Original undercarriage with Beautiful Original Floors and Frame Rails.....they just dont get any better. There is a new exhaust System....New Shocks, New Gas Tank, New Sway Bar Bushings and the frontend was gone over at some point as there are numerous new parts on the frontend of this car.The Body is Nice and Straight and the Body lines are nice.....gaps are good. The Doors Open and Close Nicely and Lock and Unlock with the Keys. The Windows all Roll Up and Down without any Problems or binding. The Paint on this car is very Pretty and was done in Beautiful Dupont Base/Clear in its Original Bright Yellow Code "D" Paint. The Paint quality is very good and smooth with no major issues. The car Shows very well and has tremendous eye appeal. The car appears to have its Original Date Coded Glass and all looks nice with no major issues. I believe there is a chip at the top of the drivers side door glass which Im told is quite common on these cars. The Trim around the Front and Rear Windows look very nice and are the Originals. The Grill looks very nice and clean and has the correct GT emblem in the middle. The Front Valance looks good as does the rear. The Rear Taillight Panel looks very nice and the Taillight Lenses are very unique to these cars and looks awesome. The Body on this car is very solid overall. Ive been under the car when it was up on a lift and the car is very solid. The Floors are typical California floor pans, very nice clean and solid and the frame rails and torque boxes looked good to me. The Body on this car looks very nice when you look down the sides...nice and straight. The body panels appear to be very solid although Im sure there were likely some minor repairs done as with most 38 year old cars. The Trunk Pan appeared to be the Original and is nice and clean with good trunk extensions. The Paint in the Trunk looked as nice as the paint throughout the whole car. The Trunk Mat is a new Reproduction piece and looks nice and clean although Ithought the quality of this Reproduction Trunk Mat was not as good as it could have been. The Trunk contained the Matching Painted Steel Wheel and Spare Tire and the Original Jack was in Place. The Drives side quarter still contains what is known as the California Evaporative Emissions equipment which are Originalto the car and shown on the Marti Report. This is a True CaliforniaTorino GT and the body is what I expect from a good Original California car! The best way to wrap this up is by saying that this Rare 1970 Torino GT Fastbackis avery Solid California car that spent most of its life in California. The car appears to be exceptionally Original for a 38 year old Muscle car. TheTorino GT 429CJlooks beautiful and runs and drives very nice. The engine runs very strong and starts easily. The day that I took these pictures was an absolutely beautiful day here in Pennsylvania and the car ran and drove beautifully. We drove the car a good25-30 milesbefore we took the pictures and I was very impressed with the cars overall performance and even more impressed with the way the car drove down the road and handled some of the country roads that we drove on that day. This 1970 Torino GT 429CJ is a really great looking Muscle car with Beautiful lines and a very cool Roofline......these cars have an interesting look all there own. I have known a few Torino guys over the years that were fanatical when it came to their Torino's and now I know why. They are not only great looking but they are just outright fun to drive. As I said earlier, the car started easily, ran nice and strong and pulled very hard through all of the gears and most importantly, the car was an absolute pleasure to drive. When my friend purchased this 1970 Torino GT 429 Cobra Jet Factory "J" Code 370HP, 4 speed car, he was told that the engine and transmission are the Original Matching Numbers pieces. From what I gathered from looking this car over with him, it appears as though the car does have its Original engine and transmission as all of the part numbers that were visible appeared to be correct except for the Carburetor and the Intake Manifold. As I said earlier, he has the Original Intake Manifold but the Carburetor is a Holley which I believe to be a later replacement. I honestly dont believe that the motor has ever been out of the car but I am by no means an expert. I have however been around enough of these Vintage Ford Muscle cars to know that everything certainly appeared original and I would bet that this motor has never been out of this 81,000 Original Mile car. One more thing, the engine in this car sounds awesome from out back with anice lopey sound from the camshaft. Its got a really impressive sound and the car absolutely makes some serious power. The car pulled hard through all the gears and the Transmission shifted Flawlessly. It case you didnt notice by now, I was really impressed with this car and it was a whole lot of fun to drive. I had the pleasure of driving this 1970 Torino GT 429CJ and his 1965 Mustang Fastback with an absolutely wild 515 Horsepower Roush Stroker motor......what a cool car that is and a ride like nothing Ive ever driven before. Well guys Im sure Ive bored you to death by now so let me just say that this is a really beautiful Original 1970 Ford Torino GT "J" Code 429 Cobra Jet Close Ratio 4 speed car in Beautiful Original Bright Yellow with the Awesome Shaker Hood Option and the Great looking Side Stripes with Great Options Like the Traction-Lok Rearend....Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Tachometer, Deluxe Seat Belt Warning Light etc etc....this is 1 of 412 of these Torino GT's produced with the 429CJ "J" Code 370 HP engine and the 4 Speed Transmission. It just doesnt get much better. The car is very solid....nice and clean throughout. It runs, drives, shifts, stops and steers nicely. The car runs very strong and its shifts perfectly. Its just a very pretty car thats a whole lotta fun to drive! Take a look at the NADA Value on these cars guys. These cars are way up there and are among the most collectible Ford Products made for the 1970 Model year. Here is the current NADA Value on this car: 1970 Ford Torino GT 429 Cobra Jet 2 Door Hardtop Fastback Original MSRP: $3,270 Low Retail Average Retail Value High Retail Base Price $15,600 $35,000 $53,900 Options 4 Speed Transmission 10% 10% 10% 429/370 HP V8 Engine 60% 60% 60% Ram Air Induction 15% 15% 15% TOTAL PRICE $28,860 $64,750 $99,715 These 1970 Torino GT Fastbacks with the 429CJ-370HP Shaker Hood, 4 Speed cars are among the most collectible Ford Muscle cars today. These cars have absolutely gorgeous styling, wonderful body lines with a Great looking frontend and a Beautiful Rearend.....well designed and very comfortable interiors......they drive beautifully and they are extremely Fast.....these cars do it all right and I am now a believer when it comes to Torino's. I know understand why these cars have had such a faithful following for so many years.....they are a very complete package from their stunning good looks to their very powerful engines. Like I said earlier, I drove this car and was very impressed with its performance and was even more impressed with the way thatit drives. Its a fun car. I could see myself getting into all kinds of trouble with one of these 429CJ powered Machines. This car is a very Original car overall and although I can not say with 100% certainty that this car has its Original matching Numbers drivetrain, I would certainly say that it surely appears to have its Original drivetrain. My friend purchased the car from a reputable Classic car Dealer who sold the car as a Numbers Matching car and after looking the car over, I have absolutely no reason to doubt that its areal deal numbers matching Torino GT 429CJ. The paperwork surely shows the car to be a real deal car and the car appears to have all of its correct enginepart numbers but again Im not a Ford expert. I will gladly get any part numbers that you would like me to get for you and post them to the auction.Like I said earlier, it doesnt appear as though the engine has ever been out of this car. We have all seen similar cars bring over $100,000 at some of the major auctions but I am in no way implying that these cars are worth $100,000+ or that this Torino GT 429CJ "J" Code is worthy of a six figure price tag. I will however say that this car is reasonably priced and the only reason that my friend is parting with a few of his cars is because he has purchased another car and he not only needs the fundsbut he is out of room in his garage. You are more than welcome to come and see this Torino GT in person if your in the area or I will gladly show the car to any auto inspector or anyrepresentative that you hire to come and inspect the car for you. Please call and I will help coordinate a time when either you or your inspector can come and look the car over. This is a very nice car. The car runs beautifully and the Transmission shifts nicely with its Original Hurst shifter. The car sounds awesome and is one pretty car. The car is not a concours car but rather a very nice combination of an Original car with some restoration. Its an excellent driver that always draws a crowd whenever the car is out at the local car shows or cruise night gatherings.....people just love this car. Its an easy car to love. Its got great character and a very strong drivetrain....everything you want in a Muscle car from its Stunning Original Color to its big High Horsepower Top Dog "J" Code 429 COBRA JET engine with the Cool Shaker Hood.....Factory 4 Speed, Ford's Famous Bullet Proof 9" Rearend with the Staggered Rear Shocks, Heavy Duty Axles and the 3.25 Traction-Lok. This car not only looks like its going fast when its parked but its one of those really cool Muscle cars that can be driven anywhere with the 3.25 gears in the rear. These cars were built to be driven and the Original Owner, a Ford Dealer from Westminster California knew exactly how to order up a car that was extremely fast and great looking yet very practical at the same time. The Torino's and Cobra's with the Drag Pack 3.90 and 4.30 gears were awesome cars with their factory Oil Coolers and the little extras that came along with these packages but they are far from practical when it comes to doing some serious cruising. This Torino GT 429CJ 4 speed Shaker car is a car that you can load up and drives absolutely anywhere. The car cruises comfortably at Highway Speeds of 70mph without so much as putting the slighest strain on your drivetrain. This car is just one of those cars thats a blast to drive and a good solid investment. Please call Tony 215-499-2693 with any questions and I will gladly help you any way that I can. Thanks, Tony 215-499-2693 On Aug-31-08 at 12:48:33 PDT, seller added the following information:This 1970 Torino GT is the REAL DEAL guys....These Factory "J" Code 429 COBRA JET- 370 Horsepower cars are rare.Keep in mind that there were only 412 of these cars produced 38 years ago! How many can still be around? How many were nice High Option Original California cars? How manyOriginalshave SURVIVEDin Beautiful Bright Yellow with the Black Bucket Seats and a Factory 4 Speed? Take a look at the NADA Value as well as Hemmings Old Car Value or Old Car Price Guide Value and you will find that this Factory Original 429 COBRA JET Torino GT is Highly Valued in all Major Collector Car Value Guides. The 1970 Torino GT 429CJ "J" Code 370hp cars are among the most collectible Muscle cars today. Keep in mind that this was the first year for Ford's 429 COBRA JET and first year Muscle cars are always sought after by serious collectors. This 1970 Ford Torino GT has not lead a mysterious life......its history is known and its owners are know....the car was Special Ordered by the Owner of SUNSET FORD in Westminster California and the car would spend its life in California. Just about everybody in the car hobby has sought out good California or Western cars because of their reputation for being exceptionally solid. This 1970 Torino GT is exactly what you'd expect from a good West Coast car.....nice Original Floor Pans, Nice Trunk Pan, Beautiful Frame Rails and Torque Boxes......just a really solid Original car. This car is not only solid but its very straight and the Paint is just Gorgeous. The Paint looks beautiful and the car looks stunning from front to back and from every angle. The Paint quality is very nice and you would be proud to drive this 429 COBRA JET Torino GT to any car show or Cruise Night Event. Keep in mind that although this car belongs to one of my very closest friends, I have taken this car on a good long drive and I own a very similar car. I insisted that I take his car out for a long drive if I were to represent the car on ebay. I also had him put the car up on his lift in his garage so I could take a look at the undercarriage. I not only looked the underside of the car over but I drove this car good and hard. I started the Torino GT when it was cold and the car started quite easily. It was a little cold hearted like most Big Blocks can be but it was up to operating temperature in no time.I then took the car up through his neighborhood and the many very cool roads that surround the area where he lives. There are many cool old Roads that wind around the area like a big old snake and others that go straight on up the sides of a mountain that will surely test the Power and Driveability of any Vintage car. This Torino GT 429CJ Drove Beautifully and Climbed every Mountain Road with Power to Spare. The car was an absolute pleasure to drive. I own a 1970 1/2 Falcon 429CJ car with low miles and although my car is a real beauty and has more than adequate Power, it does not drive as nicely or as comfortably as the Torino GT. Im not exactly sure why because they are for all intents and purposes, the same car! This 1970 Torino GT 429CJ just feels different than my Falcon. The Falcon is not nearly as comfortable nor does it have the pleasant ride that this Torino GT has.The Torino GT drove perfectly on thedaywhether wewere in heavy traffic or justcruising up and down one of the many cool country roads. The Torino not only handled well but it never got too hot and idled well in traffic. This is one of those Rare old Muscle cars that feels comfortable enough that you could drive it eveveryday if you had to. The car Drove nice and straight and when we were on a nice stretch of highway, I let the steering wheel go to see if the car would pull from one side or the other but the car drove dead straight. When we were in Traffic I hit the Brakes a few times rather hard and not only did the car stop dead on but it stopped straight! These old cars will often pull quite hard to one side or another under hard braking but not this 429CJ Torino GT.....it stopped perfectly and believe me when I tell you that you need good brakes when your trying to stop a nearly 4,000 pound car with 370+ Horsepower when you just wound the engine up and were shifting at a firm 4200-4600 RPM's........Good Power Disc Brakes are a must! The car drives just wonderfully guys and you will be hard pressed to pick the cars ride apart....it just drives that well. The Engine Performed Flawlessly in the2 1/2hoursthat we had the car out. The Engine sounds good from its nice lopey idle to its very seriousgrowl when your going through the gears. The 4229CJ Pulls very Hard and its far more than enough Power to make this Torino GT a serious contender on Light to Light Street Battles! The Transmission shifts flawlessly with the Hurst shifter and the original Hurst T handle is still. The Clutch holds well whether your stuck in traffic while heading up a hill or whether your pushing the car hard and having a little fun winding the old 429CJ up a little bit....hey, thats what these cars do best and Im not going to say I babied it.....it was a blast and I enjoyed the ride and gave the car a seriious workout! The car just did everything right when it came to driving and performance. There were no troubles with the car starting even when it was Hot.....we ran the car Hard for a solid 30+ minutes with the car getting a serious workout before we finallyhad to stop to get a little Gas and the car started up easilywhen we continued out on our adventure. There was one thing that I did notice that bothered me a little and that was that the ribbon tach was not working but that was because of the electronic performance kit in the distributor. Everything else worked fine on the car as I can remember. Please look at the pictures and you will get a good idea as to what kind of day it was.....it was like God gave us the finest day he could muster up for us that day and we enjoyed the hell out of it with 5 hours of old car fun. I also got the pleasure of driving the finest Resto-Mod 1965 Mustang Fastback with a 5==+ Horsepower Rousg Engine.....OH Man what a BLAST!!!! Anyway, Just to let you guys know....the Torino GT is a fine car and its a whole lot of fun to drive. You can enjoy the Torino GT right now and have fun either cruising to the local car show or going to your Cruise Night Gathering....either way, people will go nuts for this Torino GT! The engine and transmission appear to be all original. The car was purchased from a very reputable Classic car Dealer last year and it was sold as a "numbers matching" car. From all that Ive seen, I believe that the car is all numbers matching except for the carburetor and intake manifold which is an aluminum Edelbrock but the Original Intake Manifold goes with the car. The Carburetor is a Holley and I didnt check the numbers on it...I believe the carburetor was newer but I could be wrong. The rest of the engine and transmission appears to be 100% correct......I am not an expert but Ive owned enough of these old cars that I can say with honesty that all of the date codes and Part numbers were "D0" numbers and appeared to be correct. There were one or two pieces that were marked "C9" .......this engine and transmission do not appear to have been removed....the Tag on the Transmission checked out and was coded correctly(RUG-AU)for the 1970 429CJ Close Ratio 4 Speed and everything else appeared to have correct numbers. I looked very hard to find the vin number at the rear of the block and its nearly impossible to see anything there as its a tight squeez. All of the Numbers checked out. The Rear is the Correct and Original Ford 9" Rear with the Staggered Rear Shocks and the correct Axles. THIS IS A REAL DEAL NO BULL CAR AND 1 OF 412 PRODUCED ALMOST 40 YEARS AGO......IF YOU WANT A VINTAGE MUSCLE CAR THATS AS REAL AS THEY COME AND HAS NOT ONLY THE RIGHT COLORS, HISTORY, DOCUMENTATION AND PEDIGREE BUT ITS ALSO A CAR THATS A BULLET PROOF INVESTMENT IN MY OPINION!!! THESE CARS BOOK FOR NEARLY APPROXIMATELY $30,000 ON THE LOW END OF RETAIL AND UPWARDS OF $100,000 ON THE HIGH END.....WE SAW ONE BREAK $100K AT THE B-J AUCTION THIS PAST JANUARY.....WHERE ARE THESE CARS HEADED? ITS A NO BRAINER....HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH THE CAR AND WHEN YOU WANT A NEW TOY OR DECIDE THAT YOU NEED THE FUNDS FOR SOMETHING ELSE THEN CASH OUT AND MAKE A FEW BUCKS......THIS IS NOT A SALES PITCH GUYS...THESE CARS REALLY ARE BETTER THAN MONEY IN THE BANK. I CANT SEE MY MONEY IN THE BANK.....I CANT TOUCH IT AND I CERTAINLY DONT FEEL GOOD KNOWING ITS IN THE BANK THESE DAYS BUT I ALWAYS FEEL GREAT WHEN I TAKE A LOOK IN MY GARAGE AND SEE MY MUSCLE CARS!!!! GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!! TONY 215-499-2693 |
