Description1939 Ford Deluxe Woodie. This car came into our shop 2 years ago as a totally stock car that had been carefully cared for all of its life. It had received a full restoration roughly 25 years ago. Most of the lumber on the car is original and in great shape. The owner wanted a car that would be reliable, comfortable, and would handle the road nice. We boxed the rails from the cowl forward and installed a Heidts Superide 2 front suspension. Tubular upper and lower A- arms with adjustable coil overs and Wilwood disc Brakes. Rack and Pinion steering. Custom made Chromemoly sway bars front and back. All welds were done with tig..very clean. We installed a Ford 8in rear end with Parallel Leaf spring suspension and Bilstein Shocks. Engine is a GM crate 300hp backed by a 200R automatic transmission with Overdrive. Aluminum coated Sanderson block hugger headers, tri power intake with three brand new Rochester 2 jet carbs. , electronic ignition, new radiator. 12 circuit Painless wiring system was also installed. CD player is hidden in the glove box. Boston Acoustics speakers in the kick panels and under the back seat. Jl audio Subwoofer and amp hidden in the front piece of luggage which is 1940's vintage Samsonite. Rear luggage contains a water bottle and windshield washer motor that will squirt water on the rear tires for burnouts when the line lock is on. Beautifully finished seats with hard foam to eliminate the springy feel of original. Carpet is an Oatmeal German Square weave. Original Steering column was modified for the rack and pinion. Dash was refinished and all trim was polished. Car rolls on Radir rims with firestone bias whitewalls up front and Radir cheater slicks out back. . Drives like a new car. Cruise at 85mph on the freeway and it feels like 55. Fresh Hugger orange paint was finished in house and is laser straight and show quality. Grille was straightened and all front trim was rechromed or show straightened and polished. Most of the glass is original with the ford stamps but some have been replaced years ago. Obviously the glass has some delamination from 70 years of use. We rechromed the bumpers and guards. Cosmetically the wood on this car has alot of Patina, both myself and the owner agree that Patina on these wooden cars make them look "real." Brand new wood with 10 coats of varnish in my opinion looks plastic. Most of the wood on this car came from Henrys Forest on Iron Mountain. There are only a few lumber repairs(Small) and all of the ply inserts were replaced when the car was restored 25 years ago. All of the hardware on the wood is also original and has patina. This was a rust free car, all original floors. There are only a few over 100 of these cars left in existence, you would be hard pressed to find one nicer.
