Vehicle Description

For sale Oldsmobile442 Convertibles in the country. ThisbeautifulMatador Red and white convertible was originally builtby Oldsmobile for use as the centerpiece of their display for the 1971 Chicago Auto Show. Until several months ago, this car's picture came up as the main display onthe Chicago Auto Show's Web Siteunder "History: 1971". I have all of the original documentation from Oldsmobile showingthis to be the case.

Because of the historical nature of this car, I had it resored to all of its original specifications. We used photos from the Chicago Auto Show as well asinformation from the Oldsmobile Club of America and various other Oldsmobile historians that we know.

The car went thru a complete frame-off, rotisserie restoration. The fenders, rear quarter panels and door skins were replaced with new steel. The original Ram Air fiberglas hood wasin great shapeas was the trunk lid. The inner wheel wells and entire trunk floor needed replacing. The floor pans were solid and did not need to be replaced.

The original, numbers-matching, 455 four-barrel engine was professionally rebuilt as was the original, numbers-matching automatic transmission. The original Ram Air-equipped carburetor was rebuilt and works flawlessly. All gas lines, brake lines, hoses, belts, etc were replaced with new ones along with a front to rear new exhaust system. The framewas powder-coated andlooksfabulous. All new bumpers along with chrome trim and new badging were installed.Thebeautiful, new white, power convertible top compliments a totally new Pearl White interior with new black carpets and all new door panels. All rubber around the doors, trunk and convertible top has been replaced as have the window fuzzies and chrome trim. After restoring the Rally Wheel Rims, we installed brand-new, reproductionFirestone Wide Oval Tires as origianlly delivered on the car.

This restoration process took nearly five (5) yearswithover $50000invested and was done by a professional restoration shop which is nationally known. All of the major restoration work was finished by July, 2006 when I brought the car home for the first time. Since then I have put another $3000 into the car fine tuning everything, putting in a great sound system, replacing the brandnew factory mufflers with new Flowmasters ( a muscle car should sound like a muscle car),and various other odds and ends projects. I have allof therestoration receipts plus the receipts for the "post" restoration work.

This 442 is a joy to drive! It handles like a real muscle car should: the suspension is solid, the steering is tight and the brakes work fine. When I step on the gas, this cartakes off like a jet --lots of G Forces. Nothing boring about driving this car!!

If you win the bid, I will assist with the shipping.

Please ignore the dates on the pictures. The first six were taken in my backyard May 2007. The next five were taken on my first test drive in June, 2006 while at the restoration shop before the car was totally finished. The rest were taken on February 11, 2008.

If you have questions and are seriously interested, please send them via eBay or phone me at (815)895-6492 (leave a message and I will get back to you). I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.I havea whole series of pictures documenting the restoration process and will include aset of thesewith the purchase of this gorgeous442.
