The Bonneville name first appeared in 1954 on a pair of bubble-topped GM Motorama concept cars called the Bonneville Special. The name entered the production lineup as an option on the 1957 Star Chief. Bonneville was introduced as model series in 1958 and in 1959 it's got it's recognition as one of the great one's. It's noted for introducing the term Muscle Car to the Automobile industry. In 1959 Pontiac held victories at the Daytona 500 and the Darlington 500. The Bonneville for 1959 was completely re-designed from its previous year. Although the 1958 Bonneville ran as the Indy Pace car it was not a true performance car. After months in the design studios Pontiac created an idea that would change the car industry over the next decade. With the introduction of the wide track platform Pontiac was able to achieve better handling and superior performance with the 389ci V8. In 1959, Pontiac received it's First Motor Trend car of the year award. Pontiac's claim to have "broken all bonds of traditional styling and engineering" turned out to be valid. This 1959 Bonneville was on top of list of cars to buy for over a year finding a quality piece was very difficult.
