Hello, You are looking at one rare Pontiac. A 1968 Pontiac Catalina 428 Bench Seat Hurst shifter 4 speed Posi track convertible. One of 17 made according to the Pontiac Historic Society. I have all the PHS documents to back it up, including the original window sticker. I had a 65 GTO tripower 4 speed a while back, and to me this was always a cooler car to talk about. If you take this to a show, your more then likely going to have the only one of these there. I’ve talked to about five Pontiac guys and none had even ever seen one. Comes with a lot of the old receipts, original owners manual, original Sun tune up sheet for the 68 428 motor, also an original frame chart, and 69 Pontiac service manual. Quick rundown : 68 Catalina, 428 Motor, Munci 4 speed, Posi, Non-Air, Non Power Brake, but does have power steering. It first lived it’s life in Ohio, then made it’s way to Kansas where I found it. I’ll try to be as descriptive as possible, and give all the information I would want personally if I were a potential buyer. Drivetrain : Block was serviced replaced by a dealer in 68, shortly after the car was purchased. I had a local Pontiac guy verify it’s a 428 block, and it’s stamped SR 8 for “Services Replaced”, and 68 date coded. There is no VIN # on the block because it was a new block from the factory and not used or from another car. 4 speed is original and Munci. Rearend is the original POSI and says 9787883 which we haven’t figure out as of yet. The date code on the rear is 68 so it’s original, but I have yet to find the ratio code. It still has the posi lube data tag hanging on one of the bolts. The battery is brand new and alternator charges as it should. The motor sounds good and runs good. CLUTCH is not great and would need replaced to drive right. I drive the car around my small town now, but it’s slip time in the higher gears ( from a clutch standpoint ). Body : The car was originally Ivory White, and was painted this Burgandy/Cinnamon color 3-4 years ago. There was a lower pass side ¼ panel replaced (you can see the splice from inside the trunk). Fiberglass was put inside the trunk corners and has since come off to expose small rust holes. You would need to fix the trunk corners, but could probably save the pan with a little work The driver side ¼ has a rust hole in front of the rear tire ( see pic ). I think it had a trailer hitch bolted to the frame at one time and there is one spot of rust that is an easy repair on the drivers side back frame rail. HOOD has about 5 dings in it, but no rust. It’s brush painted black. Front drivers fender was replaced and I have all the trim for the drivers side ( fender, door,1/4). I also have all the Catalina scripts and the ‘PONTIAC’ that goes on the rear panel. Deck lid was rust repaired and needs replaced. I will include another deck lid that has some minor rust and could be repaired and bolted on. The only thing I’m missing on the body is the front Pontiac nose emblem. The top is in great shape with no leaks. It has some scratches on it, but nothing as far as tears or rips. There was also as small portion of the floor a guy patched a piece in under the drivers side front. Bumpers are in good shape and nice. Frame : I had my friend Matt that owns a bodyshop in Kansas put it on a frame machine and look it over. It was not bent or had any major issues. Misc : Gas tank is beat up and would need rebuilt or replaced. Exhaust is shot from the rearend back. Has glass packs on it. Glass: The windshield is a month old and has the correct tint band. There was not any rust around the windshield frame. The drivers and pass door glasses have some small chips on the top edge. Wheels/Tires: Two of the rims on the car has bent lips and would need fixed. I have all the original rims and tires with almost new tires and a brand new spare !!!! I also have two sets of original hubcaps. Interior: Interior is in good shape. No rips in the seats, faded carpet, but decent. Dash is free from any cracks or splits. There is on dent on the lower metal part of the dash. Steering wheel is bent and column needs rebuilt. I have an extra black steering wheel and a complete column that comes with the car. The column is gold, but the guts are what you need to replace. Other parts included : I have the trim that’s off on the drivers side. I have an extra set of good hood hinges as the ones on the car won’t pull the back of the hood all the way flat. I have some extra bumper filler pieces, Both ‘CATALINA’ scripts, the ‘PONTIAC’ script missing off the back, Hood hinges, deck lid, misc trim, 1968 NOS Texas License plates, and some other misc items. The drivers side tailight lense has a hole in it and a new/used one is included to swap it out. I also have a spare for the pass side included. My plan was to restore it back to the original Ivory white, put the original rims and some dog dishes on it and call it good as a cool driver. Well, with kid # 2 on the way and 8 other projects I just don’t have the time or space. If you have any more questions, or need more pics, feel free to ask. I will entertain any offers since I’d like to get the car purchased asap. Car is also listed on Craigslist, so I may have to pull the auction if it sells that way. A $ 500 deposit is due within 3 days after auction close. The remaining balance is due within 7 days after auction close, or at pick-up ( whichever is sooner ). I can store the car at my place for up to 2 weeks. If you need a price on transport, check out www.uship.com or Dependable Auto Shippers. Kansas title is ready to sign over to the new owner. |
