Honestly if you don't have a Pontiac in your collection pick up the phone and take this one home. We topped off an already incredible car with Judge stripes, but Pontiac drew this one up very well optioned! Car names come from various sources. Mustangs and Impalas are simply fast animals. Skylark, Charger and Barracuda started out as show car nameplates. Only one got its moniker from a comedy variety show, however--Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. Their skit featuring the line ..Here comes da judge.. inspired Pontiac to call their GTO option and appearance package The Judge. Initially intended to be a less expensive way to own Pontiac muscle, the top brass saw it as a way to sell an even more exclusive model. We not only have the PHS paperwork, we also have the Protect-O-Plate and the ORIGINAL window sticker! You want ironclad? We've got ironclad! We wet sanded and buffed the brilliant and new black paint until it shone like a mirror. Panel gaps are better than new, even from the nose to the fenders, a notoriously hard spot to get right. New BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires surround the original Rally II wheels which we just refinished in order to show them off with no trim rings, Judge style. The chrome from the emblems to the door handles to the mirror are new. We just applied the stripes a week ago, after letting the paint cure for more than two months. The headlight trim rings are as clean as the rear bumper and taillights, and the vinyl top is new. This Texas built, St. Louis raised GTO looks better than it did on delivery day in every aspect. Pontiac didn't fall to peer pressure in the cubic inch wars that took place after GM lifted its 400ci ban on intermediate platforms--they knew the Ram Air III engine was a potent street weapon, and the Ram Air IV was feared at tracks around the country. If you've never driven a RAIII car you'll be pleasantly surprised: The acceleration is most comparable to an L78 396/375hp Chevelle, except with even more torque. This was a fully sorted engine for 1969...why mess with success? Open the hood on this car and you'll not only find a Ram Air III engine, you'll find the ORIGINAL RAIII engine. Rebuilt to stock specs, cleaned and painted beautifully and sitting in a restored engine bay it's a minimalist jewel. There's a new foam seal on the air cleaner, new plugs, wires and belts for reliability, correct clamps on the fresh hoses for the car show crowd and outstanding acceleration underfoot. There's a new clutch backing the motor, sending power through the numbers matching four speed transmission to the original, special ordered 3.55 gear equipped rear axle out back. Suspensions front and rear have been rebuilt, and the car tracks true. The brakes are in excellent shape and stop as they should. The underside still sports the original, dealer applied undercoating, and its price is noted on the window sticker, hastily written in pen! Inside, you're greeted with all new soft trim from the fully rebuilt seats to the carpet to the headliner to the door panels. The gauges are bright and clear and controls work as they should. You'll find the inside hood release and T-handle Hurst shift knob, and again both parts are written in on the window sticker. Window cranks, door handles and more are new--this is an excellent car with a killer look. Numbers matching, A/C, black on black and with full documentation--this car has it all.
