Here come da Judge! Here come da Judge! While it looks like Pontiac may have channeled Laugh-In for inspiration, this Ram Air III Judge is no punch line! Here's something else that's no joke—this Judge was so hot it was stolen, stripped and left for dead! Yep—you'll have to keep reading to find out more about that!

Let's go over the GM of Canada document sheet (the north of the border equivalent to PHS paperwork for Canadian-delivered cars). The car wears its original color, Carousel Red (AKA Hugger Orange) and has a parchment top and interior (which are pearl white—what's with these misleading names, GM?) Sold new at Northgate Pontiac Buick Ltd. in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, this is one of only 3,122 '69 GTO coupes sold new in Canada—and that's Judges and non-Judges!

Here's how the rest of the sheet reads:

C08 exterior soft trim roof cover
D55 floor center console
G80 positraction rear axle
H02 3.55 axle ratio
J50 power brakes
JL2 front disc brakes
L74 Ram Air III engine
M40 Turbo 400 transmission
N40 power steering
N98 rally II road wheels
U30 auxiliary gauges
U57 tape player
U63 push button AM radio
V48 HD antifreeze (Canada mandatory)
W84 additional fuel for delivery
WT1 Judge option
Y96 handling package

Fully frame-off restored within the last four years this is an awesome looking, running and driving car. The underside is finished in the correct satin black and features all new components from front to back. A deep transmission pan provides extra fluid capacity for the Turbo 400 transmission. New brakes, new lines, a new tank, new body mounts, a blasted and painted frame and suspension and more greet you with a glance down under. There's even a new exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers which causes all ears to rise when this Judge comes in!

Inside you're transported back to the spring of 1969. New seat covers, door panels, carpeting, headliner, dash pad and more greet you when you drop in. Even the AM radio still works! Option code U30 got you a tach and full gauges, and they all work. The Judge emblem looks awesome on the glove box door—this car is just as cool today as it was nearly 40 years ago!

Climb into the engine compartment and find a well detailed, correct, well sorted engine. The original motor was replaced in August of 1981, way back before the term "numbers matching" even existed. More on that later... hiding under the air cleaner is a rebuilt carburetor and a TON of new components and work! I'm not kidding—the under hood detailing and parts were $4,800! Well over half of that was labor! There's a new carb, water pump, both battery cables, new bolts, power brake booster and master cylinder, a new battery, new plugs and wires, new timing chain set, new cam…and that's just the bigger stuff! How about "yes" to "is this car well sorted???"

I was pretty specific about the date of the engine replacement, wasn't I? Well, another great feature about this car is its fully known ownership history from wayyy back, and PILES of paperwork and receipts! Mr. Charles Tucker picked the car up from the original owner back in 1978, keeping it until 1997, and he kept excellent records, including when the car was swiped from him! That's right—on the night of November 29, 1981 someone decided that they needed the car and its parts more than Charles! They even tried to retag the car! Fortunately, the APP recovered the car, but it was totaled out—Charles came up with a list of $8500 worth of parts for a car that the insurance company valued at $4500! Needless to say, the $4500 check was issued, and Charles pursued his poor Judge. He was able to buy it back for the princely sum of $600 and start methodically putting the car back together. He kept fastidious notes regarding his contacts with the authorities and his insurance people. By 1983, all was well again, with a clean appraisal sheet showing that the car was once again in road worthy and cosmetically excellent shape. Some people would have given up—thankfully Mr. Tucker didn't or we'd have one less Judge in the world!

The exterior is in fantastic shape, with arrow straight paint over excellent bodywork. New quarters, doors and fenders were installed to kill rust once and for all. The Endura front bumper is arrow straight, the grille and trim are excellent, new mirrors and door handles adorn the doors and the original wing looks like an NOS part. Rally II wheels with brand new G70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires fill the wheel wells and stick the car to the ground (the matching 5th wheel/tire and jack are in the detailed trunk, too.) About the only nit to pick was with the "Judge" decals on the front fenders—we had a Pontiac friend of ours inform us that the lettering should be blue to match the stripes and not black. New decals have been ordered from Phoenix Graphix and will be installed prior to delivery.

Have you ever heard of a Judge without a checkered past or skeletons in the closet? Heck—our legal system would be a lot more boring if they didn't! The same goes for old cars…some of the best cars are the ones that can tell the best stories. They're like your wild-eyed uncle who tells you about the trouble he got into as a kid! Here's a car, beautifully done, with scads of paperwork, a pile of restoration pics, a known ownership history, and it's a damn cool car! All rise!
