This rare original 1929 Whippet Roadster is one of the finest original unrestored roadster's you will find. The car was part of a private museum in central Ohio and has always been wonderfully cared for. According to the owner's son the history of the car is quite interesting. It came from North Carolina and this Roadster was originally a Rum runner used for hauling Whiskey through the hills of North Carolina during prohabition. The car had an extra Willy's gas tank installed to accomodate the extra fuel needed to make the runs non stop. The Museum removed the extra tank and the car is as it was originally produced. This extra tank will go with the car. By the standards of the time, Whippets were excellent hill climbers and the top speed was advertised as 55mph, but a well tuned Whippet would do much better than that. The man who owned this car was an excellent mechanic and the car was kept in excellent mechanical shape. It runs like a top and is a fun car to drive. It has a new battery, and the vacuum canister along with the carburetor were disassembled and cleaned a few weeks ago. Both work very well.

The body has all it's original metal and I have not seen nicer original metal anywhere. The undersides of the fenders are as unpitted and smooth as the top. The paint has been touched up here and there through the years, but I believe a good bit of the paint is original. It has a passenger side mounted spare, winged motor meter and snubber shocks. The only things I can see that have been replaced are the top, which was professionally installed a few years ago and fits the way a top should. The interior side panels also look as if they were recovered at some point. The seat cushions appear to be original. In the trunk there is a compartment on the back of the seat which looks original also. The chrome and stainless are crisp and shiny for the age and the car has a patina and nostalgic look that would be lost if restored. It is just impressive the way it is.
